Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building houses with families in need.

Habitat for Humanity Winona County was founded in 1994 and finished its 1st Habitat home in that year as well.  In response to devastating floods in southeastern Minnesota, Habitat built its first home in Fillmore County in 2009, and in 2010 officially expanded its service area to include Fillmore County.  By 2012, Habitat for Humanity Winona-Fillmore Counties had completed 46 homes.  Two more homes will be completed in June of 2013 in Utica, MN and Harmony, MN.
